When this company started in 1994 it was just rock hauling truck company called KT Transportation. It slowly evolved in to ready mix trucks and then came into flatbed work. Finding work became harder and harder for trucking companies around 2006. Companies started to use brokers to find trucks instead of dealing with truckers. This put a dent in KT because they were forced to deal with brokers who were cutting the rates down so that they could make nearly 35% on these hauls, while forcing truck companies to take 35% reduction in pay. This aggravated Bart Basham so much that he decided he was going to make to switch to broker and bid work so that the trucks could make realistic wages.
So KTH was born out of this displeasure of big corporation brokers trying to squeeze trucks for all they were worth and leave them barely making enough to pay off their trucks. So here at KTH we work for 10% margins, which compared to the rest of the industry is very good for the trucker. We have found that when the Company was KT the end of the year profits were never lower than 10%, so we wanted to stay at the same range to give a trucking company feel to the drivers that we broker loads to. Over the past 4 years of being a full service broker we have kept all of our major customers that we have had for 15+ years, and have retained almost all of the drivers who worked for us as a trucking company. We now have in DFW alone more than 60 trucks on call everyday. What is even better is that because we run our business in a way that keeps the drivers happy, it keeps your products moving with the quality and care that you desire.
